Northwest Africa 13240 (NWA 13240) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2019 Dec Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CV3) History: Purchased in Laayoune, Morocco, by Rachid and Jaouad Chaoui in December 2019. Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Well-formed chondrules (apparent diameter 1000±530 µm, N = 22) and irregularly shaped CAI (mostly very fine grained but some coarser grained) are set in a fine grained matrix (~40 vol.%, deep sepia brown in thin section). Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa14.6±15.7, range Fa0.7-47.8, N = 7), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs0.9±0.8Wo2.2±1.5, range Fs0.3-1.4Wo1.1-3.2, N = 2), augite (Fs1.0±0.4Wo38.5±1.0, range Fs0.7-1.2Wo37.8-39.2, N = 2), plagioclase (An82.3Or0.1), ferroan olivine in matrix (cores Fa56.5-66.7, N = 2; rims Fa76.6-93.3, N = 2). Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CV3). Specimens: 30.2 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with Mr. R. Chaoui and Mr. J. Chaoui. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
