Northwest Africa 13222 (NWA 13222)

Purchased: 2019 Oct

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H3)

History: Purchased by Grant Harkness in October 2019 from a dealer in Zagora, Morocco.

Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and J. Boesenberg, BrownU) Relatively small, unequilibrated glass-bearing chondrules (apparent diameter 530±270 µm, N = 22) are set in a finer-grained matrix containing abundant fresh metal, troilite, chromite and Cl-free apatite.

Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa21.4±6.2, range Fa17.3-37.3, N = 8; Cr2O3 in ferroan examples <0.09 wt.%, N = 5), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs15.4±2.9Wo1.0±0.3, range Fs10.3-17.5Wo0.5-1.3, N = 5), augite (Fs5.1Wo45.9).

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H3). NWA 13220, NWA 13222, NWA 13226, and NWA 13228, which were obtained from the same source at the same time, are probably paired.

Specimens: 27.4 g including one polished thin section at PSF; remainder in the Harkness Collection.
