Writeup from MB 109:

Northwest Africa 13255 (NWA 13255)

Morocco

Find: 2019

Classification: HED achondrite (Diogenite)

History: Purchased in August 2019 by Juan Aviles Poblador from a meteorite dealer in Morocco. Later acquired by Daniel Sheikh.

Physical characteristics: Single stone with weathered fusion crust.

Petrography: (D. Sheikh, FSU) This sample is a breccia composed almost entirely of angular and tabular grains of orthopyroxene (Av. 1 mm, up to 3 mm) set in a fine-grained matrix composed of smaller orthopyroxene grains. Accessory phases include Al-bearing chromite, plagioclase, augite, sulfides, and Fe-oxides.

Geochemistry: Orthopyroxene (Fs28.2±0.4Wo4.0±0.3, range Fs27.5-29.0Wo3.0-4.5, FeO/MnO=28±3, n=30), Augite (Fs14.0±1.3Wo41.9±0.5, range Fs13.1-14.9Wo41.6-42.3, FeO/MnO=25±3, n=2), Plagioclase (An92.2±0.3Or0.2±0.1, range An91.9-92.5Or0.1-0.4, n=4).

Classification: Diogenite (monomict breccia)

Specimens: 65.2 grams at UCLA; main mass with UCLA.
