Northwest Africa 13246 (NWA 13246) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2019 Nov Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CK3) History: Purchased by Fabien Kuntz in November 2019 from a dealer in Zagora, Morocco. Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Separated, well-formed chondrules (apparent diameter 650±290 μm, N = 23) and CAIs are set in a fine-grained matrix (~80 vol.%) containing abundant Cr-magnetite (stained orange by secondary alteration). Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa26.6±11.0, range Fa4.8-36.5, N = 12), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs19.5±8.4Wo1.2±0.5, range Fs1.8-25.1Wo0.9-2.2, N = 7), augite (Fs16.3±2.2Wo48.4±1.6, range Fs14.7-18.8Wo46.7-49.9, N = 3), magnetite (Cr2O3 = 3.4 wt.%). Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CK3). Specimens: 20.9 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with Kuntz. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
