Northwest Africa 13331 (NWA 13331)

Purchased: 2020 Jan

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H7)

History: Purchased by Rachid Chaoui in January 2020 from a Mauritanian dealer.

Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) The specimen exhibits triple grain junction texture completely lacking any evidence of former chondrules, and is composed predominantly of olivine and low-Ca pyroxene with accessory augite, sodic plagioclase, altered kamacite, merrillite, taenite, troilite and chromite.

Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa16.3±0.1, range Fa16.2-16.5, N = 11), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs14.4±0.2Wo2.3±0.8, range Fs14.2-14.7Wo1.2-3.7, N = 11), augite (Fs5.5±0.3Wo45.3±0.4, range Fs5.0-5.7Wo44.9-45.9, N = 6). Magnetic susceptibility log χ = 5.20.

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H7).

Specimens: 27 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with Mr. R. Chaoui.
