Writeup from MB 109:

Northwest Africa 13337 (NWA 13337)

(Northwest Africa)

Purchased: 2019

Classification: Mesosiderite

History: The meteorite was purchased from a meteorite dealer in Morocco.

Physical characteristics: Dark grayish rock without fusion crust.

Petrography: The meteorite displays a grayish interior and is composed of silicate (about 50 vol%) and metallic (about 50 vol%) portions. The silicate fraction is predominantly composed of exsolved pyroxene, up to 2.5 mm sized compositionally zoned low-Ca pyroxene, and calcic plagioclase. Minor phases are silica, ilmenite, Ti-chromite, FeS, and merrillite. The metallic lithology consists of most abundant kamacite and some taenite. No olivine has been detected in the section studied.

Geochemistry: compositionally zoned low-Ca pyroxene: Fs24.0±7.2Wo1.4±0.7 (Fs17.5-37.8Wo0.9-2.9, n=12, FeO/MnO=23-32); low-Ca pyroxene host to exsolutions: Fs39.3±0.9Wo3.1±0.4 (Fs38.2-40.9Wo2.5-3.7, n=13, FeO/MnO=20-23); Ca-pyroxene exsolutions: Fs17.6±0.6Wo42.9±0.6 (Fs15.9-18.1Wo42.1-44.7, n=12, FeO/MnO=16-18); calcic plagioclase: An91.3±2.2 (An86.1-93.6, n=14)
