Writeup from MB 109:

Northwest Africa 13346 (NWA 13346)

(Northwest Africa)

Purchased: 2020 May

Classification: Lunar meteorite (feldspathic breccia)

History: Purchased in May 2020 by Craig Zlimen from Mark Lyon, who in turn had bought the stone from a Moroccan dealer.

Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Breccia composed of mineral clasts of anorthite, olivine, orthopyroxene, pigeonite and subcalcic augite, plus some basalt and gabbroic anorthositic lithic clasts and glass spherules, set in a finer grained matrix containing kamacite, taenite, fayalite, troilite and ilmenite. One feldspathic clast contains accessory Cr-pleonaste rimmed by Ti-chromite.

Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa22.2-45.3, FeO/MnO = 86-104, N = 5), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs29.2Wo3.9, FeO/MnO = 66), pigeonite (Fs32.6-60.8Wo17.2-23.0, FeO/MnO = 53-77, N = 4), subcalcic augite (Fs55.3Wo33.0, FeO/MnO = 65), anorthite (An95.5-96.3Or0.5-0.6, N = 2), fayalite (Fa92.3, FeO/MnO = 76), kamacite (Ni = 5.5 wt.%), taenite (Ni = 13.6 wt.%).

Classification: Lunar (feldspathic regolith breccia).

Specimens: 10.0 g in the form of a polished endcut at UWB; remainder with Mr. C. Zlimen.
