Writeup from MB 109:
Northwest Africa 13417 (NWA 13417) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2012 Sep Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H3-6) History: Purchased by Blaine Reed in September 2012 from a Moroccan dealer at the Denver Show. Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and J. Boesenberg, BrownU) Most of this specimen consists of well-formed chondrules (apparent diameter 600±390 µm, N = 24) set in a finer grained matrix containing altered metal, troilite, chromite and apatite. One type 6 lithic clast (1 cm across) containing rare chondrule remnants is present in the studied thin section. Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa18.8±2.9, range Fa16.8-23.8, N = 5; Cr2O3 in ferroan olivine (Fa23.8-40.2) 0.01-0.11 wt.%, mean 0.05±0.04 wt.%, N = 5), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs12.3±3.9Wo1.2±1.3, range Fs8.7-17.8Wo0.3-3.0, N = 4), pigeonite (Fs20.4Wo10.1), subcalcic augite (Fs21.1Wo27.4), augite (Fs13.0Wo41.4). Magnetic susceptibility log χ (× 10-9 m3/kg) = 5.02. Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H3-6 breccia). Specimens: 24.7 g including one polished thin section at PSF; remainder with Mr. B. Reed. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
