Northwest Africa 13451 (NWA 13451) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2019 Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CV3) History: A batch of 16 identical-appearing stones was purchased by Nicholas Gessler in 2019 from a Moroccan dealer. Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Well-formed chondrules (mostly granular; apparent diameter 980 ± 570 µm, N = 24) and fine grained CAI are set in a fine grained matrix (~40 vol.%, orange in thin section). Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa27.8±30.2, range Fa0.3-58.5, N = 6), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs0.8±0.2Wo2.2±1.4, range Fs0.6-0.9Wo1.3-3.9, N = 3), diopside (Fs0.4Wo41.4), plagioclase (An84.8Or0.0). magnetite (Cr2O3 = 0.1 wt.%, 3.1 wt.%, N = 2). Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CV3). Specimens: 23.1 g plus one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with Mr. N. Gessler. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
