Northwest Africa 13492 (NWA 13492) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2019 Oct Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite) History: Bought from a dealer from northwest Africa. Petrography: (J. Gattacceca, CEREGE) Brecciated igneous rock with mostly subophitic texture. Grain size is ~1.5 mm grain size although some clasts have smaller grainsize. Main minerals are low-Ca pyroxene (exsolved) and plagioclase. Other minerals: silica polymorph (to 100 μm), ilmenite, troilite, metal. Geochemistry: Low-Ca pyroxene Fs65.5±1.9Wo2.2±0.5, FeO/MnO = 31.3±0.8 (n=5). Plagioclase An87.0Ab12.6Or0.4 (n=2). Classification: Achondrite (eucrite). The low-Ca pyroxene is unusually iron rich (Fs65.6). | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
