Northwest Africa 13528 (NWA 13528)

(Northwest Africa)

Purchased: 2014

Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CK5)

History: Purchased in 2014 by Jasper Spencer from a seller in Morocco.

Physical characteristics: Single stone with dark-brown fusion crust.

Petrography: (D. Sheikh, FSU) Sample is a carbonaceous chondrite composed of blurred chondrules (Av. ~1 mm, n=4) set in a fine-grained matrix containing secondary recrystallized intermediate plagioclase (15±5 µm). Accessory phases include pentlandite and Cr-rich magnetite.

Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa30.1±0.4, range Fa29.4-30.8, n=28), Low-Ca Pyroxene (Fs26.9±0.3Wo1.3±0.2, range Fs26.6-27.1Wo1.0-1.4, n=3).

Classification: Carbonaceous Chondrite (CK5)

Specimens: 2.1 grams at UCLA; main mass with Jasper Spencer.
