Writeup from MB 110:

Northwest Africa 13670 (NWA 13670)

(Northwest Africa)

Purchased: 1995

Classification: Enstatite chondrite (EL6)

History: Purchased by Ken Regelman in 1995 from a Moroccan dealer.

Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Mostly a recrystallized assemblage of enstatite with subordinate sodic plagioclase plus accessory iron hydroxides (after primary metal), altered daubreelite, schreibersite, Si-bearing kamacite (as blebs in enstatite), rare small grains (1-10 µm) of Fe-P-bearing carletonmooreite and minor secondary calcite. Rare RP chondrules are present in the studied thin section.

Geochemistry: Enstatite (Fs0.2±0.1Wo1.4±0.0, range Fs0.1-0.4Wo1.4, N = 5), plagioclase (Ab80.8±0.6An14.9±0.7Or4.3±0.2, range Ab80.3-81.4An15.6-14.2Or4.1-4.4, N = 3), kamacite (Ni = 2.8-3.9 wt.%, Si = 1.1-2.0 wt.%, N = 2), carletonmooreite (Ni = 79.9-80.2 wt.%, Fe = 7.2-5.0 wt.%, Si = 12.9-15.2 wt.%, P = 1.9-0.2 wt.%, N = 3 -- which yield the atomic formulas [Ni,Fe]2.91-2.95 [Si,P]1.08-1.03).

Classification: Enstatite chondrite (EL6).

Specimens: 119.6 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with Mr. K. Regelman.
