Northwest Africa 13687 (NWA 13687) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2021 Jan Classification: HED achondrite (Diogenite) History: The meteorite was purchased from a dealer in Temara, Morocco. Physical characteristics: Many brownish fragments without fusion crust. Petrography: The meteorite is a monomict achondritic breccia predominantly composed of up to 3 mm sized orthopyroxene crystals set into fine-grained clastic matrix. Orthopyroxenes contain Ca-pyroxene inclusions with very fine exsolution lamellae. Myrmekitic silica-chromite intergrowth are present at the opx-cpx grain boundaries. Minor phases are silica, chromite, FeS, and metallic Fe. No feldspar has been detected in the thin section studied. The meteorite contains calcite-filled cracks. Geochemistry: low-Ca pyroxene: Fs30.1±0.3Wo4.1±0.3 (Fs29.7-30.8Wo3.2-4.3, FeO/MnO=25-28, n=7); Ca-pyroxene: Fs13.9±0.2Wo42.0±0.9 (Fs13.5-14.3Wo40.2-43.1, FeO/MnO=18-20, n=7) | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
