Dekkaliat        15°47’53.99"N, 8°59’57.98"W

Hodh El Gharbi, Mauritania

Find: October, 2020

Classification: HED achondrite (Diogenite)

History: The meteorite was found in southeast Mauritania about 30 km north of the border to Mali and subsequently purchased by the main mass holders.

Physical characteristics: Two fragile fragments weighing 1345 and 485 g, respectively, have been recovered. They are mostly covered by black fusion crust and expose a light brownish to orange interior.

Petrography: The meteorite is a monomict breccia predominantly composed of up to 2 mm sized orthopyroxene crystals set into fine-grained related matrix. Minor phases include silica, chromite, FeS, and metallic Fe. No feldspar has been detected in the two thin sections studied.

Geochemistry: low-Ca pyroxene: Fs26.3±0.6Wo1.4±0.1 (Fs25.6-27.0Wo1.3-1.4, n=7, FeO/MnO=23-24)

Classification: Achondrite (diogenite). This diogenite is distinct from the nearby Aioun el Atrouss diogenite that is polymict (with 15-25 mm sized eucrite clasts), and has larger grain size (up to 7 mm in size).
