Northwest Africa 13728 (NWA 13728) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2020 Sep Classification: Pallasite History: Purchased by Shun-Chung Yang and Juan Chen in September 2020 from a dealer in Tindouf, Algeria. Physical characteristics: The material consists of numerous small (up to 1 cm) olivine-rich, metal-bearing fragments (total weight 40 g). Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Composed predominantly of subequal amounts of olivine (grainsize up to 2.2 mm) and altered metal (kamacite plus taenite) with minor accessory chromite. Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa12.5-12.6, FeO/MnO = 44-49, N = 4), kamacite (Ni = 6.9 wt.%), taenite (Ni = 21.6 wt.%). Classification: Pallasite. Specimens: 8.3 g including a polished mount at UWB; remainder with Mr. S.-C. Yang and Mr. J. Chen. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
