Writeup from MB 110:

Northwest Africa 13754 (NWA 13754)

(Northwest Africa)

Purchased: 2020 Dec

Classification: Primitive achondrite (Lodranite)

History: Purchased by Ziyao Wang in December 2020 from a dealer in Zagora, Morocco

Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Breccia composed of coarse grained polymineralic clasts (grainsize up to 3 mm, protogranular texture) plus related discrete mineral grains (up to 5 mm) in a finer grained, heavily stained matrix (dark brown in thin section) composed of the same mineral phases. The major minerals are olivine and orthopyroxene (containing blebs and some exsolution lamellae of clinopyroxene); accessory minerals are Ti-free chromite, kamacite (partially altered to iron hydroxides) and troilite. Plagioclase is absent.

Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa10.4-10.8, FeO/MnO = 23-24, N = 4), orthopyroxene (Fs9.2-9.6Wo1.1-1.2, FeO/MnO = 13-14, N = 4), clinopyroxene (Fs3.7-3.9Wo46.3-44.7, N = 3). Oxygen isotopes (K. Ziegler, UNM): analyses of acid-washed subsamples by laser fluorination gave, respectively, δ17O -0.089, 0.084, 0.127; δ18O 2.357, 2.519, 2.392; Δ17O -1.334, -1.246, -1.136 per mil (all data linearized).

Classification: Lodranite (breccia).

Specimens: 54.4 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with WangZ.
