Northwest Africa 13763 (NWA 13763) Agadir, Morocco Purchased: Jun 2019 Classification: Martian meteorite (Shergottite) History: The meteorite was purchased by Ziyao Wang from Fayssal Mezgouri in Agadir, Morocco, Jun 2019. Physical characteristics: The specimen has an irregular shape with dark color. It has no fusion crust, but with a lot of shallow pits on the surface. The cut is gray in color, and the glassy maskelynite grains and some dark shock pockets are present. Petrography: Petrology (H.Chen and B. Miao, GUT): It has a sub-ophitic to gabbro texture composed predominantly of zoned prismatic pyroxene and lath-like maskelynite together with accessary ilmenite, silica polymorphs, troilite, apatite. Some shock pockets containing symplectite intergrowths of fayalite-silica-hedenbergite are present. Geochemistry (H.Chen and B. Miao, GUT): Low-Ca pyroxene cores (Fs16.6-17.0Wo1.0-1.2, FeO/MnO=24-25, N=9), ferropigeonite (Fs54.5-84.7Wo11.5-19.0, FeO/MnO=40-47, N=14), maskelynite (An41.6-52.8Or0.7-2.8, N=12) Classification: Martian (shergottite) Specimens: 26 g including one polished thin section at GUT, remainder with Ziyao Wang. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
