Northwest Africa 13706 (NWA 13706)

Purchased: 2019 Oct

Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CVred3)

Physical characteristics: Cut face reveals large chondrules and CAIs set in a dark matrix.

Petrography: (J. Gattacceca, CEREGE) Chondrite with large chondrules (average apparent diameter ~1 mm) and CAIs set in an abundant fine-grained iron-rich matrix.

Geochemistry: Olivine Fa8.4±11.7, range Fa0.3-39.1 (n=13), Cr2O3 in ferroan olivine 0.19±0.09 (n=5). Low-Ca pyroxene Fs1.1±0.2Wo2.1±1.6 (n=3). Sulfides are Ni free. Defocused analyses of the matrix FeO 39.1 wt%, analytical total 97.1 wt%.

Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CVred3). Reduced group based on the absence of Ni in sulfides.

Specimens: Type specimen at CEREGE. Main mass with Kuntz.
