Northwest Africa 13712 (NWA 13712) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: October 2020 Classification: HED achondrite (Diogenite) Physical characteristics: Two fragments, one with fusion crust. Cut face reveals a light grey interior with darker mm sized clasts. Petrography: (J. Gattacceca, CEREGE) Brecciated igneous rock with angular mineral clasts (to 4 mm) set in a clastic matrix. Main minerals are Ca-pyroxenes (some zoned, some exsolved). Other minerals: plagioclase, chromite (to 600 µm), troilite, metal (in the matrix, or as µm blebs and veins in the pyroxenes). Geochemistry: Low-Ca pyroxene Fs27.5±4.7Wo2.6±0.9, range Fs17.4-34.8Wo0.5-4.0, FeO/MnO = 32.5±1.64 (n=13). Plagioclase An86.0±4.2Ab13.3±4.0Or0.7±0.3 (n=9). Chromite Cr# = 0.76 (n=2).
