Northwest Africa 13713 (NWA 13713) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: October 2020 Classification: Primitive achondrite (Winonaite) Physical characteristics: A single brown flat stone. Cut face reveals a metal-rich interior with metal areas up to cm in size. Petrography: (J. Gattacceca, CEREGE) This meteorite is composed of a silicate fraction and a metal fraction in similar abundances. The silicate fraction shows triple junctions and is composed of olivine, orthopyroxene, and less abundant Ca-pyroxene (grainsize 100 μm). No plagioclase was observed. Other minerals: metal (as 50 μm grains in between silicate crystals, and as μm-sized inclusions in silicates), and sulfide. The metal fraction is under the form of centimetric grains forming a network enclosing silicates. Geochemistry: Olivine Fa2.4±0.2, FeO/MnO = 6.7±0.7 (n=4). Orthopyroxene Fs7.6±0.2Wo2.0±0.1, FeO/MnO = 6.9±1.0 (n=3). Ca-pyroxene Fs3.0Wo44.1 (n=1). Kamacite Fe93.0Ni6.5Co0.52 (n=1, wt%). Taenite Fe66.1Ni33.7Co0.26 (n=3, wt%). Classification: Winonaite. Metal-rich. Specimens: Type specimen at CEREGE. Main mass with Kuntz. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
