Northwest Africa 13716 (NWA 13716) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2020 Oct Classification: Martian meteorite (Shergottite) Physical characteristics: One fragile stone with gray interior and about 40% fusion crust Petrography: (J. Gattacceca, CEREGE) Igneous rock with intersertal texture. Grain size 500 µm. Main minerals are zoned pyroxene and maskelynite. Other minerals: pyrrhotite, Fe-Ti oxides. Weathering appears to be minimal. Geochemistry: Pyroxene Fs36.7±6.4Wo16.7±7.0, range Fs28.6-48.1, FeO/MnO = 33.8±2.5 (n=9). Plagioclase An52.7±33Ab46.1±3.2Or1.2±0.1. Classification: Achondrite (shergottite) Specimens: Type specimen at CEREGE. Main mass with Kuntz. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
