Northwest Africa 13898 (NWA 13898)

Classification: HED achondrite (Diogenite, olivine)

History: (Ziyao Wang) Purchased by Ziyao Wang from Hamza Lharbi in Guelmim in Feb. 2020.

Physical characteristics: (Ziyao Wang) 2 yellow-brown fragile fragments of 2147 and 2708 g plus 95 g of many small fragments below 5 g, totaling 4950 g. The broken faces present recognizable crystal faces. Partly covered by brownish fusion crust.

Petrography: (R. Bartoschewitz, Bart) gabbroic texture of orthopyroxene and olivine (px:ol~3:2 by IR-spectroscopy) with chromite up to 1 mm and troilite.

Geochemistry: (R. Bartoschewitz, Bart, P. Appel and B. Mader, Kiel) Pyroxene Fs22-25Wo2-1, FeO/MnO=28 (n=7); olivine Fo73,FeO/MnO=45 (n=5); chromite CRAL=77, FFM=82 (n=5); troilite Co=0.1 wt%. Magnetic susceptibility (R. Bartoschewitz, Bart) log χ (× 10-9 m3/kg) = 4.02

Classification: Diogenite, olivine-bearing

Specimens: 27.7 g at Kiel, Ziyao Wang hold the main mass, and 210 g with Bart.
