Writeup from MB 110:

Northwest Africa 13707 (NWA 13707)

(Northwest Africa)

Purchased: 2020 Feb

Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CM2)

Physical characteristics: Many dark sub-gram specimens, some with fusion crust, and a ~15 g main mass with some fusion crust as well

Petrography: (J. Gattacceca, CEREGE) Chondrules (average apparent diameter 290±150 µm, n=30) set in an abundant (74 vol%, by point counting, N=227) fine-grained, iron-rich matrix. Sulfide and rare metal.

Geochemistry: Olivine Fa14.4±15.9, range Fa0.6-44.4 (n=6). Cr2O3 in ferroan olivine 0.36±0.04 wt% (n=4). Low-Ca pyroxene, 3 analyses: Fs1.7Wo1.3, Fs1.6Wo4.1, Fs40.5Wo0.3. Defocused matrix analyses FeO = 30.8 wt%, analytical total 77.1 wt% (n=1). The low total reveals the presence of hydrous phases in the matrix.

Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CM2).

Specimens: Type specimen at CEREGE. Main mass with Kuntz.
