Writeup from MB 110:
Ramlat Fasad 527 18°57.900’N, 53°26.277’E Zufar, Oman Find: 07 Feb 2018 Classification: Ureilite History: A broken individual was found during a search for meteorites. Physical characteristics: Broken fragment, strongly wind-ablated, 3.5 cm maximum size. Petrography: (J. Pape, E. Gnos, B. Hofmann) The sample consist mainly of olivine and pigeonite and shows the characteristic ureilitic texture. Some olivine grains are poikilitically enclosed in large (up to 2.5 mm) pyroxene grains. Olivine has weakly reduced rims (width ~20 μm) with very minor Fe metal inclusions, partly oxidized due to weathering. Carbon platelets (up to 1.5 mm length) consist mainly diamond. Silicates are weakly shocked (S2). Moderate weathering (most iron oxidized, silicates are unaffected). Geochemistry: (J. Pape, NMBE) Olivine cores Fa15.4±0.1, Fe/Mn 37±1, Cr2O3 0.74±0.02 wt% (N = 7), reduced Ol rims have Fa>9.0. Pigeonite has Fs13.8±0.2Wo5.0±0.6, Cr2O3 1.05±0.03 (N = 13). Classification: Based on texture, mineralogy and geochemistry this is an unbrecciated, monomict, magnesian/ferroan ureilite. Specimens: 7.7 g including one polished thin section at NMBE, main mass: MHTO | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
