Djadjarm        36°51.933’N, 56° 13.767’E

Khorasan, Iran

Probable fall: 2020 Nov 04

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L6)

History: On 4 November 2020, 8 pm local time (GMT +3:30), villagers in the Semnan and northern Khorasan provinces of NE Iran, particularly in Meyami County, saw a bright object in the sky and heard a loud boom. They described it going toward Kalat-e Hay-ye Sharqi and Jajaram (D̲j̲ād̲j̲arm, JāJarm) regions. The news was propagated in the local and national media. Several days of search by military people did not yield any evidence related to the event. Local hunters who had seen the meteor itself, found the meteorite after about two weeks of search in the region close to Koohbābā natural reserve (close to a bauxite mine with the same name) and Jahānābād village about 16 km SW of Jajarm city.

Physical characteristics: A single stone covered with fusion crust. Cracks filled with soil are visible. After finding, the meteorite was broken in four pieces. The interior is light gray.

Petrography: (J. Gattacceca, CEREGE; Hamed Pourkhorsandi, ULB) Equilibrated chondrite with average plagioclase size above 50 μm. Opaque minerals are metal and troilite. Chromite-plagioclase assemblages are present.

Geochemistry: Olivine Fa24.7±0.01 (n=3). Orthopyroxene Fs21.4±0.2Wo2.0±0.1 (n=4). Plagioclase An11.1Ab83.7Or5.2 (n=1).

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L6).

Specimens: Type specimen (30 g) at CEREGE. A 10 g fragment at RBINS. 650 g in Hojjat Kamali’s museum in Azadi Tower (Tehran)
