Northwest Africa 13836 (NWA 13836) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2020 Oct Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite, cumulate) Petrography: (J. Gattacceca, CEREGE) Granular igneous rock with grain size 2 mm. Main minerals are equilibrated low-Ca pyroxene, and plagioclase. Ca-pyroxene are also present (to 100 µm). Pyroxenes do not show exslolution lamellae. Other minerals are silica polymorph (to 100 µm, and as 10 µm inclusions in plagioclase), merrillite, ilmenite, kamacite (at silicate grain rims, up to 200 µm, and as µm-sized blebs in the pyroxene) Geochemistry: Low-Ca pyroxene Fs42.8±2.4Wo7.7±1.1, FeO/MnO = 27.7±2.7 (n=10). Plagioclase An94.3±1.8Ab5.6±1.7Or0.1±0.1 (n=7). Chromite Cr# = 0.76 (n=2). Classification: Achondrite (eucrite, cumulate). Unusually metal-rich, with elongated metal grains up to 100 µm located in between silicate grains. Specimens: Type specimen at CEREGE. Main mass with Kuntz. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
