Northwest Africa 13837 (NWA 13837) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2020 Oct Classification: Lunar meteorite (troctolite) Physical characteristics: Brownish stone. Interior is almost black. Petrography: (J. Gattacceca, CEREGE) Granular igneous rock with grain size 600 µm. The main mineral is olivine. Other minerals are pyroxene and plagioclase, accessory chromite and ilmenite (to 200 µm), minor troilite (100 µm) and kamacite (to 50 µm). Geochemistry: Olivine Fa 37.8±2.6, FeO/MnO 111.2±18.4 (n=6). Pyroxene Fs28.8±6.7Wo14.7±9.5, FeO/MnO = 64.4±7.5 (n=4). Plagioclase An84.8±5.1Ab13.8±3.8Or1.4±1.4 (n=8). Chromite Cr# = 0.77 (n=1). Classification: Achondrite (lunar troctolite) Specimens: Type specimen at CEREGE. Main mass with Kuntz. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
