Writeup from MB 110:

Errachidia 005        31°47’9.84"N, 4°43’10.44"W

Morocco

Find: 2020 Sep 08

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L3)

History: Found by Mohamed Bir Salah on 8 September 2020. Bought from Lahcen Ait Ha in Erfoud in 2020 by Jean Redelsperger.

Physical characteristics: A single brown stone with two unusual protruding cm size (metallic?) inclusions. Cut face reveals a dark interior with chondrules and metal.

Petrography: (J. Gattacceca, CEREGE) Chondrite with well-delineated chondrules (average apparent diameter 750±370 µm, n=54) set in a fine-grained matrix (35 vol%).

Geochemistry: Olivine Fa17.7±2.7, range Fa10.3-20.8, Fa PMD = 10.1 %, Cr2O3 = 0.06±0.05 wt% (n=20). Low-Ca pyroxene Fs12.4±6.0Wo0.8±0.4, range Fs4.1-12.3 (n=12). Defocused analysis of the matrix yields FeO = 23.3 wt% and an analytical total of 97.0 wt%.

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L3). L group based on magnetic susceptibility and chondrule size. Matrix abundance (35 vol%) is in the high range for an ordinary chondrite.

Specimens: Type specimen at CEREGE. Main mass with Jean Redelsperger.
