Writeup from MB 110:

Northwest Africa 13882 (NWA 13882)

(Northwest Africa)

Purchased: 2019 Sep

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L3)

Physical characteristics: One fully crusted stone

Petrography: (J. Gattacceca, CEREGE) Chondrite with well-delineated chondrules with average apparent diameter 1160±700 µm (n=46). Chondrules are imbricated, giving an overall "cluster chondrite" texture [Metzler K., 2015, MAPS 47:2193-2217]. Opaque minerals are metal and troilite, and their terrestrial weathering products.

Geochemistry: Olivine Fa11.8±5.7, range Fa1.5-21.8, Cr2O3 = 0.06±0.07 wt% (n=21). Low-Ca pyroxene Fs11.6±4.0Wo0.7±0.3, range Fs6.7-18.5 (n=7).

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L3). L group based on magnetic susceptiblity. Chondrule size is unusually large for a L chondrite.
