Writeup from MB 110:

Northwest Africa 13883 (NWA 13883)

Morocco

Purchased: 2019 Jun

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H4, anomalous)

Physical characteristics: Dark brown stone. Cut face reveal a dark interior with metal.

Petrography: (J. Gattacceca, CEREGE) Chondrite with well-delineated chondrules (average apparent diameter 510±250 µm, n=19) . Opaque minerals are metal and troilite.

Geochemistry: Olivine Fa14.0±0.2, range Fa13.7-14.3 (n=8). Low-Ca pyroxene Fs15.9±4.5Wo1.1±0.5, range Fs12.6-26.8 (n=9).

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H4-anomalous). The anomalous designation is based on the low Fa content of olivine. Out of 5362 equilibrated H chondrites (excluding Antarctic meteorites whose Fa content used to be estimated using oil immersion), only 6 (about 1‰) have a lower Fa content in olivine (Chug Chug 019 H4-an with Fa10.2, SaU 164 H6 Fa10.2, NWA 1608 H4-6 Fa11,8, NWA 455 H4 Fa12.5, NWA 4992 H4 Fa13.7, SaU 598 H4-an Fa14.0).
