Northwest Africa 13947 (NWA 13947) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: January, 2021 Classification: Ureilite History: The meteorite was purchased from a meteorite dealer in Nouadhibou, Mauritania in January, 2021. Physical characteristics: Brownish rock without fusion crust. Petrography: The meteorite shows a poikilitic texture consisting of large up to 2.5 mm sized orthopyroxene crystals enclosing rounded olivine grains. Olivine displays characteristic reduced rims where in contact with FeNi-metal or flaky graphite. Some cracks are filled with secondary calcite. Geochemistry: reduced rims in olivine: Fa4.8-7.3; olivine contains 0.50±0.02 wt% Cr2O3 and 0.26±0.01 wt% CaO; pigeonite contains 1.30±0.04 wt% Cr2O3 and 1.57±0.05 wt% Al2O3 Classification: ureilite (olivine? orthopyroxene type) | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
