Northwest Africa 13961 (NWA 13961) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2005 Feb Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H5) History: Purchased by Blaine Reed in February 2005 from a Moroccan dealer at the Tuscon Gem and Mineral Show. Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and J. Boesenberg, BrownU.) Largely recrystallized with sparse chondrules. Accessory phases are altered metal, troilite, sodic plagioclase, chromite, apatite and devitrified glass. Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa19.4±0.3, range Fa19.1-19.8, N = 4), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs16.9±0.2Wo1.1±0.1, range Fs16.7-17.2Wo1.0-1.3, N = 6), augite (Fs6.2Wo42.3). Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H5). Specimens: 22.2 g including one polished thin section at PSF; remainder with Mr. B. Reed. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
