Ramlat Fasad 550 (RF 550)        18°56.396’N, 53°24.478’E

Zufar, Oman

Find: 2018 Feb 07

Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CV3)

History: Found during a search for meteorites.

Physical characteristics: Small fragment of meteorite consisting of large CAI (~50 vol%) with adhering chondritic material.

Petrography: (Åke Rosén, E. Gnos, B. Hofmann) CAI of 6 mm with adherent chondritic material, chondrule size 0.5-1.5 mm. Fine-grained brown matrix contains grains of troilite to 50 μm, no iron metal and magnetite observed. Unshocked (S1). Medium weathering.

Geochemistry: (Å. Rosén, F. Gfeller) Olivine Fa22.9±13.6, range Fa2.7-39.3 (N = 17). Low-Ca-pyroxene Fs3.8±0.8Wo1.6±0.3 (N=8), Ca-pyroxene Fs23.0±21.0 Wo51.8±4.8 (Fs0.4-48.4Wo40.2-59.7, N = 4).

Classification: Based on chondrule size, texture and mineralogy this is a carbonaceous chondrite of type CV3. Unshocked (S1). Medium weathering.

Specimens: 0.454 g and one polished thin section at NMBE. Main mass: MHTO.
