Basic information | Name: Ramlat Fasad 576 This is an official name for a relict meteorite. Relict meteorites are composed mostly of terrestrial minerals, but are thought to have once been meteorites. Note: evidence that this was once a meteorite may not have been critically evaluated. Abbreviation: RF 576 Observed fall: No Year found: 2016 Country: Oman Mass: 2.45 kg

Writeup from MB 110:
Ramlat Fasad 576 19°04.459’N, 53°27.684’E Zufar, Oman Find: 02 Feb 2016 Classification: Relict meteorite (Relict iron) History: Found during a search for meteorites. 129 g were found as small fragments on the surface. An additional 2320 g of buried fragments were collected in 2017 using a metal detector. Physical characteristics: A large number of black angular fragments were found in close proximity, many of them buried in soil. Strongly magnetic. Petrography: Lamellar mixture of magnetite, maghemite and iron hydroxides with small relict inclusions of kamacite and schreibersite. Oxide-cemented dune sand is attached to the fragments of pure lamellar oxide. Geochemistry: Bulk analysis (Activation laboratories, INAA) Fe = 53.0, Ni = 5.69, Co = 0.32 (all wt&); Cr = 56, Cu = 96, Ga = 14, Ir = 0.10, Pt <0.1, Au = 0.35 (all μg/g). LA-ICP-MS data show inhomogeneous distribution of Ni and Co in Fe-oxyhydroxides with Ni = 6.39±2.57, range 1.2-10.2, Co 0.56±0.30, range 0.18-1.55 (all wt%, N = 12). Compositions of relict primary phases (EDS): kamacite Ni = 6.55±0.76 (N = 7), schreibersite has molar Ni/(Ni+Fe) of 0.38 (N = 16). Classification: Relict iron meteorite. Element concentrations affected by terrestrial weathering. Specimens: 207 g at NMBE. Main mass: MHTO.
