Writeup from MB 110:

Ramlat Fasad 583        19°09.340’N, 53°37.293’E

Zufar, Oman

Find: 22 Jan 2018

Classification: Relict meteorite (Relict iron)

History: Found during a search for meteorites.

Physical characteristics: Several dark brown strongly magnetic iron oxide fragments up to 15 mm in size embedded in sandstone.

Petrography: Fragments consisting of partially massive iron(hydr)oxide, partly (hydr)oxide-impregnated dune sand. Sharp boundary of (hydr)oxide-rich fragments to host sandstone, which is not impregnated by (hydr)hydroxides. Strongly magnetic.

Geochemistry: Bulk analysis (XRF, in situ) Fe 0 21.2±3.7, Ni = 0.50±0.19, Co <0.05-0.07 (all wt%, N = 3).

Classification: Relict iron meteorite. Element concentrations affected by terrestrial weathering and dilution by adhering dune sand.

Specimens: All at NMBE.
