Ramlat Fasad 586 18°53.247’N, 53°13.504’E Zufar, Oman Find: 03 Feb 2018 Classification: Relict meteorite (Relict iron) History: Found during a search for meteorites. Physical characteristics: Large mass of loosely connected oxide fragments, no compact metal remaining. Strongly magnetic. Only a few small fragments were visible on the surface. Petrography: Lamellar mixture of iron oxides and -hydroxides, strongly magnetic. Abundant green stainings of Ni-oxidation products. Some voids contain filamentous iron hydroxides, probably mineralized terrestrial microorganisms. Geochemistry: Bulk analysis (Activation laboratories, INAA) Fe = 54.6, Ni = 7.83, Co = 0.33 (all wt%); Cr = 307, Cu <1, Ga = 1, Ge <10, Ir = 3.34, Pt = 27.3, Au = 0.38 (all μg/g). Classification: Relict iron meteorite. Element concentrations affected by terrestrial weathering. Specimens: 378 g at NMBE. Main mass: MHTO. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
