Ramlat Fasad 590 19°00.295’N, 53°27.605’E Zufar, Oman Find: 09 Feb 2018 Classification: Relict meteorite (Relict iron) History: Found during a search for meteorites. Physical characteristics: Single fragment of sand cemented by Fe-oxyhydroxides. Strongly magnetic. Petrography: Sample consists mainly of quartz sand with a cement of Fe-oxyhydroxides, locally remnants of pure oxides are present. Strongly magnetic Geochemistry: Bulk analysis (XRF) Fe = 36.6±6.1, Ni = 0.72±0.34, Co = 0.08±0.02 (all wt%, N = 3). Classification: Relict iron meteorite. Element concentrations affected by terrestrial weathering and dilution by adhering dune sand. Specimens: 0.63 g at NMBE. Main mass: MHTO. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
