Writeup from MB 110:
Northwest Africa 13925 (NWA 13925) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2020 Jan Classification: Martian meteorite (Shergottite) History: Purchased by Luc Labenne in January 2020 from a Moroccan dealer. Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Poikilitic texture. Pyroxene oikocrysts (with domains of low-Ca pyroxene, pigeonite and subcalcic augite) enclosing olivine chadacrysts are set in a sparse interstitial groundmass composed mainly of clinopyroxene and maskelynite plus accessory pyrrhotite, ilmenite, chromite, merrillite and minor secondary calcite. Olivine chadacrysts contain crystallized melt inclusions consisting of aluminous augite, plagioclase, silica polymorph and pyrrhotite. Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa31.5-36.9, FeO/MnO = 46-52, N = 8), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs20.3-20.9Wo2.7-3.2, FeO/MnO = 31, N = 2), pigeonite (Fs24.6-28.0Wo7.4-15.6, FeO/MnO = 27-30, N = 4), subcalcic augite (Fs16.2-17.8Wo29.2-31.8, FeO/MnO = 24, N = 2), maskelynite (An55.6-56.7Or1.1-1.3, N = 3). Classification: Shergottite (poikilitic). Likely paired with NWA 13250, NWA 13276, NWA 13360, NWA 13366, NWA 13367, and NWA 13369, based on closely similar textures and mineral compositions. Specimens: 20.5 g in the form of a polished endcut at UWB; remainder with Mr. L. Labenne. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
