Calama 158 22°27.59’S, 68°50.46’W Antofagasta, Chile Find: 20 Oct 2019 Classification: Ureilite History: The meteorite was found in the Atacama desert by Mr. T. V. Kryachko on the October 20, 2019. Physical characteristics: Physical properties: A single stone of 17 g weight is ovoid-shaped and has partially broken black surface with the remnants of fusion crust. Petrography: The meteorite has granular texture with triple junctions of the grain boundaries. Grain size is in a range 0.5-1.5 mm. The rock consists of olivine (~80 vol.%) and clinopyroxene (~20 vol.%), graphite-diamond aggregates, and accessory Fe,Ni metal and troilite, and weathering products (Fe hydroxides). Aggregates of graphite and diamond occur both on the grain contacts and inside the olivine and pyroxene grains. Olivine grains have rims enriched in fine-grained metal and minor troilite inclusions on the contacts with the carbon phases and along the grain boundaries. Olivine has sharp optical extinction. Geochemistry: Mineral compositions and geochemistry:(N. N. Kononkova, EPMA, Vernad): Olivine is zoned from Fo82 Fe/Mn=46.1 (core) to Fo97 Fe/Mn=4.3 (rim); Pyroxene is En78.1±0.2 Wo6.6±0.1 (Fe/Mn=23.3). Classification: Ureilite, moderately weathered. Specimens: Samples: Type specimen of 4.7 g and one thin polished section are on deposit in Vernad. Mr. Kryachko holds the main mass. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
