Northwest Africa 13994 (NWA 13994)

Purchased: 2008 Jun

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H5)

History: Purchased from a Moroccan mineral dealer at the meteorite show in Ensisheim, France

Physical characteristics: Individual with some broken edges and relicts of fusion crust.

Petrography: (K. Metzler, IfP) Monomictly brecciated ordinary chondrite, consisting of clearly visible chondrules, chondrule fragments, mineral fragments (olivine, low-Ca pyroxene), metal (mostly oxidized), and sulfide grains. Secondary feldspar grains <50 µm.

Geochemistry: Mineral compositions and geochemistry: Mean olivine composition is Fa19.0±0.3 (Fa18.5-19.5); n=9. Mean low-Ca pyroxene composition is Fs16.8±0.4Wo1.3±0.2 (Fs16.2-17.4Wo1.1-1.6); n=11.

Classification: H chondrite based on mineral chemistry. Petrologic type 5 based on the equilibrated state of olivine and pyroxene and grain size of secondary plagioclase.
