Northwest Africa 14008 (NWA 14008) Morocco Find: 2020 Feb Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L5) History: Purchased in March 2020 online by Illy Valenzuela and Ramond Borges from Lahcen Aitha. Physical characteristics: Single stone with dark-brown fusion crust. Petrography: (D. Sheikh, Cascadia) This sample contains chondrules (700±200 µm, n=10) and a few clasts set in a fine-grained matrix with secondary recrystallized feldspar (Av. 15 µm) and accesory Fe-Ni metal, troilite, and chromite. Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa22.9±0.5 ,range Fa21.7-24.4, n=29), Low-Ca Pyroxene (Fs19.6±0.3Wo1.1±0.1, range Fs19.0-20.4Wo0.9-1.4, n=21). Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L5) based on silicate mineral geochemistry and size of secondary recrystallized plagioclase feldspar. Specimens: 20.3 g and a thin section at Cascadia; main mass with Illy Valenzuela and Raymond Borges. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
