Northwest Africa 14030 (NWA 14030)

Purchased: 2020

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L3-6)

History: The meteorite was purchased from a group of meteorites hunters in Nouadhibou, Mauritania, in late 2020.

Physical characteristics: Light brownish rock partly covered with fusion crust.

Petrography: The meteorite is a chondritic breccia consisting of clastic L6 type groundmass with embedded up to 1 cm sized L3 and L6 clasts. Plagioclase grain size in type 6 clasts is about 60 µm. Chondrules mean diameter is 515±254 µm (N=34). Opaque phases are FeNi metal and sulfides.

Geochemistry: type 3 lithology: olivine: Fa15.3±10.2 (Fa0.7-28.2, n =28); pyroxene: Fs12.9±8.0Wo1.1±1.1 (Fs1.2-26.1Wo0.2-4.2, n = 28); type 6 lithology: olivine: Fa26.3±0.1, n=10; pyroxene: Fs21.5±0.1Wo1.9±0.6, n=10
