Northwest Africa 13958 (NWA 13958)

Purchased: 2019 Oct

Classification: Primitive achondrite (Winonaite)

History: Purchased by Aziz Zad in October 2019 from a dealer in Ouargla, Algeria.

Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Triple grain junction texture (mean grainsize ~0.2 mm). Aggregate of forsterite, enstatite, diopside and plagioclase with accessory kamacite, taenite and troilite.

Geochemistry: Forsterite (Fa3.4-3.9, FeO/MnO = 18-19, N = 4), enstatite (Fs4.4-4.7Wo1.8-2.0, FeO/MnO = 11-13, N = 4), diopside (Fs1.0-1.9Wo44.4-45.7, FeO/MnO = 7-10, N = 4), plagioclase (An21.3-21.9Or2.5-3.3, N = 3).

Classification: Winonaite.

Specimens: 40 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder held jointly by  WangZ and Mr. A. Zad.
