Northwest Africa 14057 (NWA 14057)

Purchased: 2021 Mar

Classification: Ureilite

History: Bought by Mohamed Ali Loud from a Saharawi mineral dealer in Mauritania.

Petrography: (K. Metzler, IfP) Coarse-grained ultramafic rock with metamorphic texture (~120° triple junctions), consisting of olivine and pyroxene grains up to ~2 mm. Metal is concentrated along grain boundaries and mostly oxidized by terrestrial weathering.

Geochemistry: Mineral compositions and geochemistry: Mean olivine composition: Fa19.2±0.3 (Fa18.6-19.8); n=12. The mean CaO concentration in olivine is 0.37 wt%. Mean pyroxene composition: Fs16.0±0.3Wo5.3±1.6 (Fs15.5-16.5Wo4.2-8.9); n=12. The mean concentration of Cr2O3 in olivine and pyroxene is 0.53 wt% and 1.07 wt%, respectively.
