Northwest Africa 14039 (NWA 14039)

Purchased: 2021 Apr

Classification: HED achondrite (Diogenite)

History: The meteorite was purchased from a dealer in Morocco.

Physical characteristics: Light-brownish rock covered with minor fusion crust.

Petrography: The meteorite is a monomict breccia composed of up to 2.5 mm blocky orthopyroxene crystals within more fine-grained cataclastic matrix. Minor phases are silica, chromite, troilite, and metallic iron. No plagioclase has been found in the section studied.

Geochemistry: low-Ca pyroxene: Fs25.6±1.0Wo1.7±0.2 (Fs24.8-27.7Wo1.3-2.0, FeO/MnO=23-28, n=16)
