Northwest Africa 14042 (NWA 14042)

Purchased: 2021 Mar

Classification: Primitive achondrite (Winonaite)

History: Purchased by Rachid Chaoui in March 2021 from a Mauritanian dealer.

Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Triple grain junction texture. Composed of forsterite, diopside, enstatite and sodic plagioclase together with accessory kamacite, taenite, troilite and chlorapatite.

Geochemistry: Forsterite (Fa4.0-4.3, FeO/MnO = 16-20, N = 4), diopside (Fs1.4-1.8Wo44.9-45.7, FeO/MnO = 9-12, N = 4), enstatite (Fs4.8-4.9Wo1.8-2.0, FeO/MnO = 11-14, N = 4), plagioclase (Ab75.4-76.0An20.8-21.0Or3.7-3.0, N = 2).

Classification: Winonaite.

Specimens: 20.6 g including one polished endcut at UWB; remainder with Mr. R. Chaoui.
