Northwest Africa 14079 (NWA 14079)

(Northwest Africa)

Purchased: 2020 Mar

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H4)

History: Purchased by Jason Whitcomb in March 2020 from a dealer in Hartford, CT, who had acquired the stone from a Moroccan source.

Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and J. Boesenberg, BrownU) Relatively small, well-formed equilibrated chondrules containing devitrified glass are set in a matrix containing altered metal, chromite, troilite, chlorapatite and merrillite.

Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa18.8±0.1, range Fa18.7-19.0, N = 7), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs16.5±0.0Wo0.9±0.2, range Fs16.4-16.5Wo0.6-1.1, N = 4).

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H4).

Specimens: 20.9 g including one polished thin section at PSF; remainder with Mr. J. Whitcomb.
