Dokuzagaç 38°18’37.97"N, 43°03’09.47"E Van, Turkey Find: 2015 June Classification: Iron meteorite (IIIAB) History: The meteorite was found in 2015 by Mr. Osman Hezer near Lake Van in Turkey. A few years later, Mr. Adem Aktas recognized the rock as iron meteorite. A small piece was sent to Dr. Mehmet Yesiltas, who conducted more detailed experiments with Dr. Namik Aysal for the classification of the meteorite. Physical characteristics: The meteorite weights approximately 81.4 kg. It has a roughly rectangular shape and the top surface is covered with a layer of oxide. Minor rusting is also visible. Petrography: Polished and etched surface reveals Widmanstätten patterns consistent with a coarse octahedrite (1.75 ± 0.2 mm). Geochemistry: Bulk composition via LA-ICP-MS: Ni = 57.30 mg/g, Co = 3.35 mg/g, Ga = 22.23 µg/g, Ge = 37.89 µg/g, Au = 0.46 µg/g, Cu = 169.88 µg/g, W = 1.12 µg/g, Re = 1.40 µg/g. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
