Northwest Africa 14033 (NWA 14033) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2021 Mar Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CK5) History: The meteorite was purchased from a group of meteorite hunters in Nouadhibou, Mauritania, in March, 2021. Physical characteristics: Brownish rock with minor fusion crust. Petrography: The meteorite displays a brownish to dark orange interior and consists of sparse, well separated chondrules (apparent mean diameter about 700 µm) set in abundant recrystallized matrix dominated by ferroan Ni-bearing olivine. Minor phases are nests of intermediate plagioclase, low-Ca pyroxene, Ca-pyroxene, and FeS. Cr-rich magnetite is abundant; no metal was found in the section studied. The meteorite is strongly weathered and contains secondary calcite and barite. Geochemistry: olivine: Fa29.6±0.2 (Fa29.2-29.9, FeO/MnO=112±12; NiO=0.50±0.03 wt%, n=10); low-Ca pyroxene: Fs25.0±0.2Wo0.8±0.04 (Fs24.7-25.3Wo0.7-0.9, n=11); Ca-pyroxene: Fs8.9±3.5Wo50.8±2.7 (Fs1.8-12.9Wo47.6-55.3, n=9); feldspar: An38.6-52.8Ab45.7-58.3Or1.6-3.2, n=11; magnetite contains 4.8±0.1 wt% Cr2O3, n=4 | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
