Writeup from MB 110:

Northwest Africa 14059 (NWA 14059)

(Northwest Africa)

Purchased: 2019

Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite)

History: The meteorite was purchased from a meteorite dealer at the mineral show in Munich, Germany.

Physical characteristics: Grayish fragment partly covered with fusion crust.

Petrography: Unbrecciated gabbroic eucrite composed of exsolved pyroxene and often lath-shaped calcic plagioclase up to 1 mm in size. Some pyroxenes show compositional zoning attesting to a low degree of thermal metamorphism. Minor phases include silica, chromite, ilmenite, fayalite, FeS, and secondary barite. No metallic iron has been detected.

Geochemistry: zoned pyroxene: Fs47.0±9.0Wo8.3±1.7 (Fs36.0-59.3Wo5.4-10.6, FeO/MnO=26-30, n=11); low-Ca pyroxene host to augite exsolution lamellae: Fs62.0±0.8Wo4.7±0.9 (Fs60.7-63.2Wo3.1-6.2, FeO/MnO=25-27, n=10); Ca-pyroxene exsolution lamellae: Fs30.9±0.5Wo42.4±0.5 (Fs30.0-32.3Wo41.3-43.0, FeO/MnO=27-32, n=11); calcic plagioclase: An81.9±1.6 (An79.9-84.8, n=11)
